The recent “legal” spoof notices on Facebook have me thinking on social media, privacy, and all that good stuff. Here are my thoughts on it.

Privacy is all well and good, but that’s not what social media is about. If we accept that platforms like Twitter and Facebook are not meant for privacy, it’s easier to accept that everything we post on them is intended to be public and social. Then, it doesn’t really matter if Facebook screws up and makes your private message public.

If private messaging is what’s being sought for, there are other channels available. Email, Instant Messaging, or even SMS on cell phones, just to name a few.

P.S., if you’re not paying for something, you’re not the customer; you’re the product being sold.

What do you think?
