Always, ALWAYS, Make Backups

So. Here I am, tackling problem after problem with moving my test Wordpress sites into a live environment. Very exciting!

Suddenly, I hit a wall. My portfolio site has lost a ton of it’s metadata, with no clue as to where it went. Many post titles and linkages to gallery images simply reverted to NULL.

What to do? Track down a backup? Not in this case… I never made a reliable one with the most up-to-date data. Hence the lesson of this entry.

Always, ALWAYS, make backups of your data. No matter how seemingly insignificant. DO IT.

While I have a structuraly sound backup, hours of work is lost.

BOO!
